SpeQtral & Toshiba extend partnership to build Singapore's quantum-safe network
Following SpeQtral's selection to construct Singapore's inaugural quantum-safe network, the quantum communications technology company has announced an extended collaboration with Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation (Toshiba), furthering their mutual goal of global network protection against quantum threats.
This partnership builds on a history of successful innovation, with SpeQtral and Toshiba working together since 2021. Beginning with proofs-of-concept in quantum communications, the partners established the first quantum-secure link across the SPTel fibre networks in Singapore. This was followed with the unveiling of the Quantum Networks EXperience Centre (QNEX) in 2022, a platform created with the express goal of demonstrating the transformative potential of quantum technologies.
New challenges beckon as the focus now turns to the prestigious National Quantum-Safe Network Plus (NQSN+) Project, named Singapore's first national quantum-safe network. The Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) assigned the NQSN+ project to a joint venture between SPTel and SpeQtral. The project relies heavily on Toshiba's Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Key Management System (Q-KMS). This highly successful suite of products has a proven record in quantum-safe network testbeds and industry use case developments throughout the United States, UK, Europe, South Korea, and Japan.
Shunsuke Okada, President and CEO of Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation, said, "With 20 years of experience in this technology, Toshiba has formed industry collaborations globally to advance early implementations of quantum-secure communications. We are thrilled to take our partnership with SpeQtral to the next level, building on the foundation established a few years ago. We are committed to supporting businesses in the quantum-safe network market, beginning with NQSN+, across Singapore and Southeast Asia, with our advancing expertise and know-how."
The strengthened partnership promises to usher in a new era of secure communications in Singapore as quantum-safe networks are deployed nationwide. Both Toshiba and SpeQtral are combining their expertise to ensure businesses will have seamless access to quantum-secure solutions to safeguard their critical data and information.
Lum Chune Yang, Co-Founder and CEO at SpeQtral, remarked, "This enhanced partnership with Toshiba is a significant milestone for SpeQtral, particularly in light of our involvement in the NQSN+ project. Our collaboration underscores our unwavering commitment to advancing quantum technology and ensuring the highest levels of security for our customers. With SpeQtral's satellite QKD capabilities along with Toshiba's fibre QKD deployments, we eagerly anticipate the opportunities that this partnership will further unveil, and remain committed to pioneering state-of-the-art quantum solutions that safeguard Southeast Asia's digital future."
The ongoing cooperation between SpeQtral and Toshiba reflects a shared dedication to delivering enterprise-ready quantum-secure solutions to a world where cybersecurity is more important than ever. The NQSN+ Project symbolises pivotal progress in the joint mission to fortify critical data and communications, paving the way for a more secure and technologically advanced world.
