Indosat to adopt NVIDIA's Blackwell platform for AI shift
Wed, 27th Mar 2024

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has announced plans to adopt NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform, setting the stage for a fundamental shift in the use of AI technology in Indonesia.

According to Indosat, this move will prove instrumental in developing Indonesia’s own AI, and will enable businesses to utilise generative AI, thereby bolstering innovation and economic growth throughout the nation.

Indosat aims to be a transformative force in Indonesia by utilizing the trend-setting technology of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform. The adoption of this platform signifies a paradigm shift towards AI and machine learning, and the potential they hold to propel Indonesia towards new avenues of innovation, economic growth, and national sovereignty. Moreover, this endeavour showcases the potential of AI cloud services in Indonesia and opens the doors for unprecedented developments in this sector.

Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said, “The integration of NVIDIA Blackwell products into our infrastructure underscores our commitment to technological advancement and national sovereignty. With Blackwell technology at our fingertips, we are one step closer to our larger purpose of empowering Indonesia and leading the charge in sovereign AI, driving innovation, economic growth, and prosperity for future generations.”

Lintasarta CEO Bayu Hanantasena affirmed, “Adding NVIDIA's latest technology into our service portfolio supports us in our journey to becoming one of the leading cloud service providers in the nation, helping us expand our network even further.”

Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President of Telecom at NVIDIA praised the initiative and stated, "By integrating the Blackwell platform, Indosat is poised to redefine its business and drive the development of large language models that will help empower Indonesia with generative AI.”

Through this integration, Indosat also aims to bolster its business ecosystem and thus create conditions for Indonesia to rise as a global leader in Sovereign AI. Access to the processing power of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform would help Indosat to unlock new frontiers, contributing to businesses worldwide in harnessing the full potential of AI and machine learning.

Key to this venture is the NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs, based on the Blackwell platform. Their integration will ensure a significant speedup to inference workloads, making real-time performance a reality for resource-intensive, multitrillion-parameter language models. Furthermore, the NVIDIA Tensor Core GPU, including NVIDIA's BlueField-3 DPUs, would enable acceleration of cloud networks, composable storage, zero-trust security, and GPU compute elasticity in hyperscale AI clouds.

Indosat first revealed its strategic relationship with NVIDIA at the Mobile World Congress in 2024. As Indonesia continues its stride towards technological excellence, Indosat stands as a significant player - driving the nation towards a horizon of innovation, opportunity, and progress. The adoption of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform further emphasises Indosat's position as a key enabler in unlocking the full potential of AI and machine learning for Indonesia, as it embodies its role as a global powerhouse in the new era of sovereign AI.
