Hungry Jack’s boosts digital agility with Azure cloud upgrade
Hungry Jack's has partnered with Rackspace Technology to overhaul its digital infrastructure, aiming to deliver more responsive and scalable services for customers across Australia. The collaboration centres on migrating Hungry Jack's key systems to Microsoft Azure, introducing a cloud foundation designed to support future business growth and improve digital engagement channels.
Platform modernisation
The company's previous digital platform began to falter as app usage accelerated, exposing limitations in scalability and flexibility. With increased demand for new features and reliability from both customers and the business, Hungry Jack's sought a cloud solution that would address these operational challenges while also enhancing security and cost efficiency.
Rackspace Technology worked with Hungry Jack's to design and deploy an enterprise-grade Azure landing zone. This architecture leverages infrastructure as code, automating many previously manual tasks, from environment provisioning to security patching. The new approach enables the company to quickly roll out new services and respond to changing customer needs.
Operational agility
Rackspace's Elastic Engineering team provided expertise in creating a continuous integration and continuous delivery pipeline for Hungry Jack's development teams. By adopting these DevSecOps best practices, the company can now deliver updates and enhancements at a much faster pace, with automated security checks integrated into each release cycle.
The collaboration also emphasised knowledge transfer, helping Hungry Jack's internal teams-and their offshore partners-build operational maturity and become more self-sufficient in running and scaling cloud infrastructure. Automated patching and resource management contribute to reduced system downtime and improved application stability.
Cost and efficiency gains
One of the key outcomes for Hungry Jack's has been the ability to optimise infrastructure spending through Azure's pay-as-you-go model. This flexibility allows the company to scale resources according to demand, reducing unnecessary costs traditionally associated with over-provisioning physical hardware.
The increased automation and improved control have reduced release times for new features and customer-facing updates. The company reports greater reliability in its digital services, including its mobile app and loyalty programmes, as well as enhanced compliance and security practices through the cloud foundation.
Customer engagement focus
Enhancing digital customer experiences was a main driver behind the transformation. With the Azure platform now in place, Hungry Jack's believes it can respond more quickly to evolving customer expectations and roll out digital initiatives tailored to user behaviour across its channels.
"Rackspace has been proactive from day one, constantly pushing us to improve, not just waiting for us to ask. We now have the ability to spin up environments as needed - fast, repeatable, and reliable. That's a game-changer for us," said Chad Capiz, Digital Technology Lead, Hungry Jack's.
Collaboration outcomes
The partnership demonstrates an effort to embed security and quality assurance across Hungry Jack's digital estate. By linking operational processes with the flexibility of cloud infrastructure, the company is now positioned to expand digital services, improve customer interactions, and introduce new digital offerings as needed.
"Hungry Jack's has been a fantastic long-term partner and a perfect example of what real collaboration can achieve," said Adhil Badat, Managing Director, APJ, Rackspace Technology.
