HPE to supply tech to Formula E racing team

Fri, 7th Dec 2018
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Monaco-based VENTURI Formula E Team has brought Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in as its Official Technology Partner, effective immediately.

Given its current partnership working with the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, HPE is certainly equipped with a wealth of experience – it is also working with teams in Indycar and NASCAR.

"At HPE, we believe the future belongs to the fast, and we're focused on accelerating what's next for enterprises, including in the world of auto racing," says HPE president and CEO Antonio Neri.

"We are delighted to announce a new partnership with VENTURI Formula E Team and look forward to bringing the power of the world's best technology and services to every facet of their factory and trackside operations to transform the team's operational efficiency and further their engineering excellence.

HPE will provide its expertise, transformational technologies, infrastructure, and innovation with the goal to bolster the team's critical performance functions both on and off the track with edge to cloud solution.

The company will be dedicating a number of technical specialists to the VENTURI Formula E Team and implementing a technological strategy to incorporate next-gen platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to boost efficiency and performance.

"I'm delighted to welcome Hewlett Packard Enterprise on board. There is no doubt that this partnership will allow VENTURI Formula E Team to grow," says VENTURI Formula E Team president Gildo Pastor.

"Due to their great expertise, I'm convinced that HPE will fast-track the development of the team and enhance the corporate structure. Given that Formula E is a very dynamic and fast-paced environment, I know that HPE will enjoy this unique and hopefully rewarding journey we are embarking on together."

The cars are loaded with technology and produce huge amounts of data, requiring hyperconverged infrastructure and data centers at the tracks as well as development centres, offices, and factories around the world.

VENTURI Formula E Team principal Susie Wolff says races are won and lost on strategy which is why they're looking to build the best possible team equipped with the best possible technology and engineering partners as part of their journey.

"I've personally seen the HPE motorsport partnership in action, I know the real tangible technical benefits they can bring to a team and I am delighted that we have them on board as our Official Technology Partner," says Wolff.

"I also think that the scale of their commitment doesn't just reinforce their belief in our team but also their appreciation for Formula E as a sport. HPE has also had the foresight to recognise that Formula E is a highly competitive environment for sustainable automotive and technological innovation and they want to be part of that momentum.

HPE chief marketing officer Jim Jackson says Formula E is driven by cutting-edge technology and he is looking forward to innovating with the VENTURI Formula E Team.

"Data is the new currency, and how companies use data to derive insights that inform meaningful actions is key to outpacing the competition," says Jackson.

"Our partnership with VENTURI Formula E Team is about putting the most advanced technology to work in a way that will allow the organization to understand data, fuel insights and drive innovation – faster and better than ever before.

The opening round of the Formula E season begins in Saudi Arabia December 15, with HPE branding and corporate identity to be displayed prominently on the front wing guards, the VENTURI team wear and a number of other specialist partner-designated channels.
