Astro Malaysia Holdings has reported achieving 99.99% uptime for its core SAP and Oracle operations following the deployment of a high availability solution from SIOS Technology. The broadcast and entertainment company migrated its mission-critical databases to the cloud and is using SIOS LifeKeeper for Linux to ensure business continuity on AWS.
Uptime focus
The transition to a cloud-based environment formed a key part of Astro's digital strategy, aiming to guarantee uninterrupted access to essential business systems. The company serves over five million households, thousands of businesses, and has a large digital and radio audience in Malaysia. Ensuring constant access to back-end enterprise applications was a primary objective during its move to AWS infrastructure.
Astro needed a platform that could support its operational requirements while being certified by SAP, AWS, and Oracle Linux. Following a review of available solutions, it selected SIOS LifeKeeper for Linux, citing proven reliability and performance assurances as decisive factors. Minimal administrative overhead and ease of maintenance also influenced the decision.
Cloud resilience
Astro's IT team has reported that, by using the SIOS solution, unplanned downtime was virtually eliminated. This stability has allowed the company to meet targets for recovery time and recovery point objectives-critical metrics for business continuity planning. In addition, the reduced risk of disruption has helped avoid the financial consequences often associated with outages.
Operational efficiency has improved as minimal management effort is now required to keep systems running. This has enabled IT staff to concentrate resources on broader strategic projects, rather than ongoing system oversight or issue remediation. The company indicates that confidence in the resilience of its core business applications has improved significantly since adopting the high availability technology.
Financial impact
With the reduction in downtime, Astro has been able to avoid costs linked to disruptions and the subsequent impact on both day-to-day operations and service delivery. The assurance of system availability has become particularly critical as the company expands its cloud infrastructure to support a growing portfolio of content, radio, and digital services.
"Organisations like Astro Malaysia are realizing that high availability in the cloud is not automatic. It requires proven technology and deep expertise," said Masahiro Arai, Chief Operating Officer, SIOS Technology. "We're proud to help customers like Astro achieve the reliability, resilience, and efficiency needed to run their most essential workloads in AWS with confidence."
