Vertiv introduces line of redundant power transfer switches
Wed, 15th Jun 2022
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Vertiv has introduced Vertiv Geist Rack Transfer Switch (RTS), a new line of transfer switches that provides redundant power to single-corded devices.

Geist RTS is ideal for use in distributed IT networks and edge locations because of its compact size.

It allows users to switch to an alternative power source in the event a primary source fails or is unavailable.

In addition, the Vertiv Geist RTS can instantly recognise a loss of power and automatically switch the load to an alternative source in fewer than eight milliseconds so that supported servers and other crucial devices can continue operating during a planned or unplanned outage.

Currently available in basic upgradeable and enhanced intelligence models, Vertiv will be releasing switched, and outlet-level monitored models later in the year.

The basic upgradeable model includes the option to upgrade technology to meet future requirements as they present themselves.

The enhanced intelligence model offers a comprehensive view of how much power is being used by vital IT equipment, available either at the rack or through remote access.

The Geist RTS also makes it straightforward to mount rack power distribution units (rPDUs) within the U-space of any standard rack or cabinet because it is available in 1U or 2U rack mount designs.

Further, select models are available with Combination Outlet C13/C-19 to make selecting and purchasing simpler and customer applications more flexible.

"Vertiv is a leader in flexible, customisable solutions that satisfy the scalable growth requirements of the data centre, and we continue to meet those needs in support of the expanding edge and IoT and 5G technologies and applications," Vertiv Asia IT and Management Systems senior director Wesley Lim says.

"As more computing moves to the edge, an outage in a single rack can grind business to a halt, making redundant power one of the core backbones of a distributed IT or edge location."

As well as offering redundant power, the Vertiv Geist RTS also proactively monitors the IT environment, such as temperature, humidity and airflow.

Moreover, users are able to enhance device monitoring features by monitoring IT power usage remotely.

The Vertiv Geist RTS can support up to 24 outlets for higher-density rack configurations.

This latest offering comes after Vertiv introduced the Liebert DM in October 2021, a line of thermal management solutions designed for small and medium-sized computer rooms, IT closets and other edge applications.

The company says using an intelligent algorithm, the floor-mounted Liebert DM thermal management solution is designed to provide enterprise-level cooling features to small computer rooms and network closets to prevent overheating and downtime of IT equipment.

According to Vertiv, it's designed to provide year-round temperature and humidity control for IT applications.

It features a high sensible heat ratio (SHR) of greater than 0.9, making it useful for cooling IT environments versus standard comfort cooling solutions.

Users have the option to connect up to four units of the Liebert DM series in a single network. With automatic rotation features, multiple Liebert DM units can be installed, configured and synced to ensure optimal management of heat loads in most IT environments.

The Geist Rack Transfer Switch is ideal for banking, healthcare, financial services, education, energy, government and transportation industries that operate micro data centres, distributed IT networks or edge data centres.

Vertiv's latest offering is available now throughout Asia, including South Korea and Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
