UNICOM expands immersion-ready servers in partnership with Intel and Dell
Fri, 29th Dec 2023

UNICOM Engineering, a supplier of application platforms and lifecycle support services for software technology developers, has announced a major expansion of its portfolio of immersion-ready servers.

Developed alongside industry frontrunners Intel and Dell Technologies, the upgraded product lineup supports the ever-growing demand for higher computing power in today's data-driven landscape. The new server options reflect UNICOM's commitment to pushing technological boundaries while also prioritising sustainable practices and operational efficiency.

Austin Hipes, Chief Technologist and VP of Engineering at UNICOM Engineering, stated: "Building on our history of innovation, our engineering team works in partnership with both Dell Technologies OEM Solutions and Intel to make some of the densest, energy-efficient platforms in the market leveraging single-phase immersion cooling."

Built on Dell PowerEdge 16G servers, the latest immersion-ready platforms developed by UNICOM Engineering can feature up to two 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and are compatible with the forthcoming 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

The R660-IR, R760-IR, R760xa-IR, and C6620-IR deliver considerable processing power and versatility, catering to a wide range of workloads. Capable High-Performance Computing (HPC), High-Performance Data Analytics (HPDA), and High-Frequency Trading (HFT), as well as traditional corporate IT and advanced AI and machine learning applications, can be carried out.

These advanced offerings provide substantial throughput improvements and meet the evolving power and thermal requirements of modern systems. The inclusion of PCIe Gen5 technology allows faster data transfer rates, resulting in smooth performance and heightened productivity.

Immersion cooling elements are incorporated into the platforms to ensure optimum performance and reliability. Such features effectively dissipate heat, avoid overheating issues, and ensure stable operation, even under intense workloads.

Rusty Cone, General Manager for UNICOM Engineering, highlighted the company's dedication to working harmoniously with Intel and Dell Technologies to deliver sustainable solutions. By employing immersion cooling, operational leaders demonstrate their commitment to sustainable resource management and energy efficiency. The technology has proven its worth in terms of reducing Power Usage Effectiveness values, minimising water usage, and integrating waste heat into the local energy landscape.

Market analysts from MarketsandMarkets forecast considerable growth in the liquid cooling sector, predicting its value to reach $7.8 billion by 2028, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 24.4%.

UNICOM anticipates that liquid cooling will play an increasingly pivotal role in data center design, particularly as organisations prioritise sustainability. Companies that continue to rely exclusively on traditional air-cooling methods may face challenges in competing with counterparts that have adopted high-density environments supported by liquid cooling solutions.

As a strategic system integration partner, UNICOM Engineering offers solution design, regulatory compliance, logistics, installation services, and global support needed for immersion solutions.
