Teradata launches VantageCloud Lake on Google Cloud for AI

Thu, 27th Jun 2024

Teradata has announced that it will offer Teradata VantageCloud Lake on Google Cloud, combining the strengths of both companies to deliver Trusted AI for enterprises. The initiative integrates Teradata's ClearScape Analytics with Google Cloud's AI technologies, including the Vertex AI platform and Gemini models.

Key components of VantageCloud Lake, touted as the most comprehensive cloud analytics and data platform for AI, include Teradata's ClearScape Analytics and a connected ecosystem tailored for Google Cloud. This ecosystem features seamless integrations with Google Cloud's robust AI offerings. The collaboration aims to assist enterprises in scaling predictive AI initiatives and generating new AI use cases.

Hillary Ashton, Chief Product Officer at Teradata, commented on the partnership, stating, "Companies in every industry see significant business potential in AI and need modern cloud analytics, as well as a trusted data platform, to begin to realise AI's benefit. Our collaboration with Google Cloud reflects the deep commitment both companies have to helping organisations successfully and responsibly execute their business strategies using AI."

Ashton further explained that VantageCloud Lake with Google Cloud, inclusive of ClearScape Analytics and seamless integration of Google Cloud's AI services, is designed to help customers address challenges and seize opportunities. This would facilitate driving value with Trusted AI.

ClearScape Analytics enables the deployment of end-to-end AI and ML pipelines and integrates with Google Cloud's Vertex AI. Vertex AI is a fully-managed, unified AI development platform that allows customers to train and predict models using data within VantageCloud Lake. This integration aims to help customers perform complex analytics and AI/ML tasks on extensive datasets, incorporating their preferred data science tools to drive profitable growth.

The collaboration also leverages Google Cloud's multimodal large language model, Gemini, which can interpret various inputs, including text, audio, images, videos, and code. ClearScape Analytics' open API connects with Gemini's embedding API to store resulting vectors in VantageCloud Lake. This provides a high-performance vector store that can join with production data, enabling companies to innovate with generative AI and enhance customer experiences.

Stephen Orban, VP for Migrations, ISVs, and Marketplace at Google Cloud, stated, "Our expanded partnership with Teradata brings the power of Google Cloud's generative AI to Teradata VantageCloud Lake, empowering our joint customers to unlock new levels of innovation and efficiency. By seamlessly integrating Google's cutting-edge AI technologies with Teradata's data platform, we are enabling businesses to harness the full potential of their data and drive transformative outcomes with trusted AI."

An example provided in the press release was the Teradata Customer Complaint Analyzer, which uses Gemini models for a comprehensive analysis of customer complaints. This solution can categorise, analyse, and derive insights from both text and audio-based customer feedback more efficiently than traditional text-only methods. By analysing call centre audio recordings in addition to text, organisations can better understand customer sentiment, identify trends, and develop actionable insights to improve customer loyalty and business value.

This initiative is presented as a starting point for organisations to integrate generative AI into their business applications. The extension of Teradata's VantageCloud Lake solution to Google Cloud aims to provide a trusted, well-governed, and cost-effective foundation for AI initiatives, reducing data preparation time and accelerating time-to-value.

Teradata VantageCloud Lake on Google Cloud is now generally available. ClearScape Analytics' integration with the Vertex AI platform is also available, and enhancements with Gemini models are expected to be available for private preview in the first half of 2025.
