T4 Group acquires East Tamaki Data Centre assets from Kyndryl

New Zealand's co-location Data Centre operator, T4 Group, has announced a significant step towards its commitment to sustainability, security, and resilience with the acquisition of East Tamaki Data Centre's assets from Kyndryl, the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider. Both Kyndryl and T4 Group promise a smooth transition for the data centre clients.

This purchase aligns with T4 Group's national expansion strategy, following their exclusive agreement with Kyndryl to utilise the East Tamaki Data Centre since March 2022. T4 Group's CEO, Dean Addie, underlines the importance of this agreement, stating, "We are thrilled to have signed this agreement with Kyndryl to acquire the Data Centre assets, servicing our existing customers and partnering with new. This strategic move underscores T4 Group's unwavering dedication to improving New Zealand's Data Centre Infrastructure on a journey towards a greener and more resilient digital future."

The newly acquired data centre will augment T4's existing operations and further bolster the fully sustainable Southland hyperscale Data Centre's development set to commence construction this year. The move solidifies T4's commitment towards energy efficiency, sustainability, and enhancing resilience in New Zealand's data centre infrastructure.

Audrey Campbell-Frear, Managing Director at Kyndryl New Zealand, also commented, "We are pleased T4 Group have an unwavering commitment to excellence, and we are excited to build on our long-standing partnership with T4 as they increase their presence in the East Tamaki Data Centre and provide high-quality data centre services to local customers."

The East Tamaki facility commands exceptional security measures with a secure location, controlled access points, a dedicated security control room and 24/7 support for access and monitoring, hence offering clients the highest standard of protection. It is fully equipped for cloud enablement, featuring the latest in network connectivity, facilitating the seamless operation of modern digital infrastructure. With ample capacity, T4 can accommodate businesses of all sizes.

Moreover, the facility prioritises efficient energy use, scalability, advanced power and cooling solutions, and the use of green technologies, ensuring minimal environmental impact. For more than a decade, the East Tamaki Data Centre has been operational, providing a testament to the quality of the site's infrastructure with zero power outages while being strategically located more than 30 metres above sea level, outside flood plains, low seismic risk area and outside Auckland Volcanic Field. The centre's superior features, including high security and resilience, exceptional safety, and high-performance computing and storage, have led to an 'All-of-Government approved' (AOG) rating.

Overall, the acquisition further strengthens the T4 Group's commitment to enhancing the resilience and security of New Zealand's data infrastructure, developing several Data Centre locations across the region, and offering improved international connectivity and disaster recovery solutions.
