Goodman completes third data centre at Tsuen Wan West
Goodman Group has completed the construction of a third building at its Tsuen Wan West data centre campus in Hong Kong, handing it over to GDS.
The new data centre building offers a power capacity of 50MW and contributes to the 225MW capacity of the Goodman Tsuen Wan West Campus. Goodman Group purchased the site, which was previously an old textiles factory, in 2014. Construction began on the first building in 2019 following comprehensive power, design, and planning activities.
The first two buildings at this new campus were leased on completion in 2022. The recently completed third building, along with an anticipated fourth building due for completion by the end of 2024, are both leased to GDS, a prominent developer and operator of high-performance data centres across Asia.
Paul McGarry, Goodman's Head of Asia, remarked, "This is the latest data centre completion at the brand new 225MW Goodman Tsuen Wan West campus, further demonstrating our ability to provide the essential infrastructure needed to support Hong Kong's digital economy."
GDS is commencing the construction of its third data centre facility, dubbed HK3, at the Tsuen Wan West campus. Jamie Khoo, CEO of GDS International, expressed enthusiasm about the project, saying, "We are excited to commence MEP construction on HK3, our third data centre facility in Hong Kong. This facility underscores our dedication to innovation and sustainability, while addressing the growing demand for data centre services driven by advancements in cloud computing and AI. Positioned close to GDS HK1 and HK2, HK3 will form a powerful data centre cluster, offering expanded capacity to meet our customers' evolving needs. We are confident this development will further strengthen our position in Hong Kong's dynamic market."
Paul McGarry added, "this handover at Goodman Tsuen Wan West to GDS continues our track record of successfully delivering complex large-scale projects, in major global cities, helping improve speed to market for our customers."
Goodman is recognised as one of the largest providers of data centres in Hong Kong and has been operational in the region since 2005. The company's overall strategy is concentrated on fulfilling its global target of delivering a 5GW power bank, with 1.8GW dedicated to Asia. The Goodman Tsuen Wan West campus reflects this strategic aim.
The newly completed building in the Tsuen Wan West project features LEED Gold pre-certification, adhering to standards of sustainability and energy efficiency. Situated in one of Hong Kong's prominent availability zones, Tsuen Wan offers significant advantages for the development and operation of data centres.
