Fivetran unveils Hybrid Deployment for secure data handling
Fivetran has announced the launch of Hybrid Deployment, a new solution enabling businesses to run data pipelines within their own environments while using Fivetran's managed platform. This update is expected to be particularly beneficial for organisations in highly regulated industries, such as financial services, manufacturing, and the public sector, which require secure and reliable data management methods.
Fivetran's Hybrid Deployment combines the benefits of SaaS and self-hosted data integration solutions. It allows enterprises to control their data within their secure environment while leveraging Fivetran's management and monitoring capabilities. George Fraser, Fivetran's CEO, emphasised the significance of this development: "Introducing a hybrid cloud deployment model to the Fivetran platform opens up entirely new possibilities for businesses of all sizes. Businesses no longer have to choose between managed automation and data control."
The solution aims to address common challenges faced by enterprises with sensitive data or stringent regulatory requirements. Traditional SaaS tools often lack the necessary control and security, while DIY or self-hosted solutions can struggle to scale effectively. Hybrid Deployment seeks to mitigate these issues by centralising data and preparing it for AI and machine learning, all while maintaining control over sensitive information.
Vinay Kumar Katta, Managing Delivery Architect at Capgemini, commented on the new feature: "Fivetran's new hybrid deployment option is a game-changer. Now customers can easily centralise all their data, regardless of security or compliance requirements, given the ability to separate the control and data plane."
Hybrid Deployment functions by keeping sensitive data within the customer's environment while using a lightweight local connector to move data securely. Fivetran's user-friendly interface facilitates easy configuration and monitoring from a single control plane. This architecture ensures data remains within the customer's secure environment, giving them ultimate control while benefiting from Fivetran's management tools.
Hybrid Deployment offers several key benefits, including full visibility of all pipelines from a single interface, robust data security measures like access control and data masking, compatibility across various environments including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and on-premises setups, quick installation with minimal maintenance, and detailed cost management tools for tracking usage and controlling budgets.
Troy Fokken, Chief Architect at phData, expressed enthusiasm about the new deployment option: "phData is excited about Fivetran's new Hybrid Deployment option, which allows our customers in regulated industries like healthcare, life sciences and financial services to scale the configuration and ingestion of highly sensitive datasets on self-managed infrastructure."
Fivetran's solution aims to reduce engineering teams' complexity by minimising manual setup and maintenance. This would allow them to focus on developing data-driven solutions. An IDC report highlighted that enterprises could realise an average annual productivity gain of USD $1.5 million by transitioning to Fivetran's managed data movement solution.
The platform supports high-volume change data capture from databases and offers over 500 pre-built connectors for various applications, events, files, ERPs, data warehouses, and data lakes. The Fivetran platform is designed to replicate data with minimal impact on source systems, low latency, and high throughput.
Ajay Bidani, Data and Insights Manager at Powell Industries, noted the solution's value: "The simplicity of management is the best value of Hybrid Deployment. I know the status of our pipelines and can launch and manage cloud-based and on-premises pipelines directly from one platform."
