Camunda named Strong Performer for orchestration in Forrester Wave

Thu, 21st Aug 2025

Camunda has been named a Strong Performer in the latest Forrester Wave: Digital Process Automation Software report, with recognition for its orchestration capabilities and support for process standards.

The Forrester Wave report evaluates digital process automation software providers and highlighted Camunda's strengths in orchestration, particularly at a time when many artificial intelligence initiatives face challenges such as unclear return on investment, inadequate data foundations, and limited in-house expertise.

The assessment cited Camunda for its approach to orchestrating across multiple endpoints and bridging both application and infrastructure boundaries. According to the report, "(Camunda's) focus on endpoint orchestration provides a strong foundation for its excellent vision and innovation, which includes a unique approach to agentic orchestration based on BPMN."

Camunda achieved the highest available scores on criteria including orchestration that unifies endpoint automations crossing both adjacent and complementary boundaries. In addition, the company received top marks for its support of process standards such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), Decision Model and Notation (DMN), and Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Agentic orchestration

"We're proud to be recognized as a Strong Performer in the latest Forrester WaveTM Digital Process Automation report," said Daniel Meyer, CTO, Camunda. "Agentic AI is opening up new possibilities for business process automation. But without orchestration, AI agents lack the coordination, accountability, and reliability needed for real-world, business-critical processes. Camunda's agentic orchestration is the fastest route from AI pilot to production-scale ROI without sacrificing transparency or governance."

The Forrester report notes that Camunda's cloud-native workflow engine, Zeebe, "earns top marks for orchestration with a distributed and stateful approach" that supports high-performance and resilient process execution. This foundation is considered valuable for supporting enterprise business needs in process automation, especially as digital transformation continues to advance across many sectors.

The evaluation further points out that Camunda's adherence to BPMN, DMN, and MCP process standards is designed to ensure transparency and governance in agentic AI implementations. These features include built-in auditability, versioning, and the ability to exchange AI models and tools during operation without interrupting ongoing processes.

The report also reflects above-average customer feedback for Camunda's orchestration capabilities. According to Forrester, "Camunda best suits enterprises with professional developers who want to automate complex processes and require best-in-class orchestration." This suggests the solution is particularly relevant for organisations undertaking sophisticated automation projects and seeking robust governance.

Market context

The latest recognition of Camunda comes as enterprises increase their focus on digital transformation through process automation and AI technologies. Many organisations are looking for tools that address complexity, offer rapid scalability, and provide mechanisms for integrating human and automated decision-making across varied technology landscapes.

Camunda's orchestration platform supports the design, automation, and improvement of business-critical processes across systems, people, and devices. The company works with a range of customers in different industries and provides capabilities designed to align with both business and IT requirements.

Beyond orchestration, the ability to exchange AI models and maintain visibility of automated processes remains a priority for firms aiming to operationalise AI at scale. Camunda's agentic orchestration approach, as highlighted in the report, is positioned to support these requirements by emphasising transparency, governance, and flexibility in enterprise deployments.
