Telehouse & NT boost Thai data networks with new cable link
Telehouse Thailand and National Telecom Public Company Limited have formed a partnership to deliver high-capacity international data transmission via submarine cable systems.
The rise of generative AI and cloud computing has increased demand on global data networks, with submarine cables playing a critical role in carrying over 99% of intercontinental internet traffic. The strain on these networks has pushed markets to expand infrastructure, particularly in Southeast Asia, where regional digital transformation is accelerating.
Under the new partnership, NT's international submarine cable network is now directly connected to the fully operational Telehouse Bangkok facility. This connection allows Telehouse Thailand to provide local content providers and internet service providers from neighbouring countries with streamlined access to the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) and Asia America Gateway (AAG) systems.
The ADC system links several key regional economies - China, Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam - many of which host major cloud and content provider data centres. The AAG system, meanwhile, extends connectivity from Asia to the United States, enabling data traffic between major global markets.
Domestically, NT's submarine cable system provides alternative routing options along Thailand's Gulf coast to its international cable landing stations in Songkhla and Satun. This arrangement is intended to ensure reliable global reach by offering multiple geographic pathways for data transmission.
The direct interconnection between NT's submarine cable network and the Telehouse Bangkok data centre is aimed at supporting both private enterprise and public sector organisations in Thailand. Additionally, the move is aligned with the Thai government's ambition to position the country as an ASEAN Digital Hub, catalysing digital transformation across the region and making it an attractive destination for global investment.
Colonel Sanpachai Huvanandana, President, National Telecom Public Company Limited, said:
"This collaboration expands Thailand's business potential and telecommunications readiness in the AI era. With terabit-scale capacity and high-reliability network design, our international connectivity infrastructure addresses the critical requirements of global cloud and content providers when considering investment in Thai data center facilities."
Ken Miyashita, Managing Director of Telehouse Thailand, added:
"Leveraging NT's submarine cable network, a core element of Thailand's telecommunications infrastructure, enables our customers to efficiently handle the huge volumes of data traffic from Gen AI and cloud services, which are expected to significantly grow. As Bangkok's leading carrier-neutral interconnection data center, Telehouse further strengthens this submarine connectivity and high service availability with the four diverse incoming fiber routes."
Industry observers note that the ability to accommodate higher volumes of international data traffic is viewed as key to fostering continued digital development and attracting new global investments to the Thai technology sector.
The infrastructure upgrades provided through this partnership reflect a broader regional trend, as governments and service providers in Southeast Asia seek to build greater resilience and capacity within their digital networks. The enhancements are expected to benefit both domestic and international content providers, supporting services such as artificial intelligence applications, cloud computing, and other bandwidth-intensive digital solutions.
