Seagate expands Lyve Cloud with new features and additional regions
Seagate has announced the expansion of its Lyve Cloud Object Storage with advanced features and new regions in Europe and Asia. The company specified that the new sites will be located in Germany and Japan. This expansion aims to provide cost optimisation, operational efficiencies, and scalability across various enterprise scenarios.
The new features include data lifecycle logic, no minimum object retention, near-instant geo-replication, white labelling options, and IP source control. They are designed to enhance cloud storage and offer flexibility and efficiency.
Melyssa Banda, VP of enterprise systems and solutions at Seagate, said, "With the new features and expanded regional coverage of Lyve Cloud Object Storage, we help our global customers looking to build their regional presence and scale cloud-native workloads such as AI and machine learning, camera-to-cloud workflows, surveillance and edge data applications."
"With these additions to our S3-compatible cloud object storage offering, we are also well positioned to support global and local enterprises in maintaining compliance with data localisation policies while navigating the most challenging IT environments and scaling their businesses cost-effectively."
The data lifecycle logic feature allows for automated data transitions by setting rules that govern the lifetime of objects. This helps optimise costs by deleting unnecessary data and moving objects from a hot to a cooler tier as needed. The lack of minimum object retention requirements adds flexibility for users to manage and delete data as necessary, thus reducing storage costs.
Near-instant geo-replication ensures automated, real-time data replication across multiple regions, protecting against natural disasters. This feature also aims to empower distributed teams with better access times to their data.
The white-label offering extends more value and flexibility to partners wishing to offer S3-compatible storage services under their brand. IP source control allows customers to define access rights based on a range of IP source addresses, adding an extra layer of security and control.
One key benefit highlighted is Lyve Cloud Object Storage's predictable cost structure. The absence of minimum object retention requirements and no API or egress fees allow enterprises to scale up or down as needed, allowing for better budget management. It also integrates seamlessly with other Lyve services, such as Lyve Mobile with Cloud Import, providing a comprehensive data management solution for both partners and enterprises.
Security features integrated into Lyve Cloud Object Storage include Write Once, Read Many (WORM), which ensures data integrity by preventing alterations or deletions once data is written. Data At Rest Encryption (DARE) provides confidentiality for stored data, while Single Sign-On (SSO) and Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) enhance secure access and allow complex web applications to request resources from different origins. These security features are included at no extra cost.
Lyve Cloud Object Storage is available in the United States, United Kingdom, European Union (based in Frankfurt), Singapore, and Japan (based in Tokyo).
