Princeton Digital to invest USD $5 billion in Asian expansion
Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has announced a substantial expansion of its portfolio by acquiring powered land across key Asian markets. This investment will drive a new USD $5 billion investment programme, which will encompass India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, significantly increasing PDG's capacity in these regions.
This expansion includes acquiring land for a total of 500 MW distributed across several locations. The company's flagship Mumbai data centre, known as MU1, will transform into a 150 MW campus with the addition of 100 MW. In Chennai, a new 72 MW campus will be established, raising the company's footprint in India to 230 MW. In Malaysia, the Johor region will see a 200 MW addition, making it a 370 MW region. Additionally, Jakarta will have a 100 MW site. This development covers over 88 acres across these regions.
Rangu Salgame, Chairman, CEO and Co-founder of PDG, commented on the strategic move, stating, "Over the last 18 months, AI has completely transformed the data centre landscape. First, we saw the sharp rise in demand in North America, followed by the initial wave of AI-driven demand in Asia. PDG has been a major beneficiary of this initial surge as a result of our deep engagement with hyperscalers, proven track record of execution and data centre footprint."
He added, "In anticipation of the continued growth of AI demand, and driven by the strategic needs of our customers, we have now acquired a further 500 MW of powered land and expansion footprint. This capacity is in locations where we have already proven our ability to deliver. By securing access and roadmap to full power in these locations, we continue to be positioned to meet the pan-Asia customer demand for scalable, AI-ready data centre capacity built by an experienced, world-class team."
PDG highlights its strengthened strategic partnership with hyperscalers, particularly in the context of AI infrastructure expansion. The company's existing portfolio spans significant markets such as Singapore, Japan, India, Indonesia, China, and Malaysia, serving the technological needs of global cloud and AI enterprises.
The upgrades in Mumbai, Chennai, Johor, and Jakarta are designed to strengthen PDG's position in Asia. The flagship Mumbai data centre MU1's expansion to a 150 MW campus underscores this commitment. The establishment of a 72 MW campus in Chennai brings India's total capacity to 230 MW. In Johor, a 200 MW addition elevates the region's capacity to 370 MW, and Jakarta's new 100 MW site is another significant addition. These locations are set to host some of the largest AI-ready campuses in their respective regions.
PDG's extensive footprint and track record in execution position it favourably to capitalise on the surging AI-driven demand within the data centre industry. The company's strategy is firmly rooted in securing and developing scalable infrastructure capable of accommodating the rapid growth of AI and cloud computing needs across Asia.
