Oostveen farewells Dell EMC, welcomes Pure Storage as APJ CTO

12 Feb 2019

Having announced his departure from Dell EMC in a LinkedIn post three weeks ago, Matthew Oostveen has revealed his next vocation.

“I've been waiting a while to write this post, so it's great to finally be able to publicly announce that I've taken the role as the APJ CTO for data management & storage company Pure Storage,” Oostveen shared in a follow-up LinkedIn post.

“Along with the change of company comes a change of location. In early March I'll be relocating to Singapore where I'll be based, so farewell to my Sydney network, and a big hello to Singapore.”

Oostveen described his time with Dell as a ‘tremendous experience’ and that he has learnt a significant amount over the years.

“5 years ago, I was offered a role at a plucky young joint venture called VCE as the APJ CTO. I knew immediately it was a once-in-a-lifetime offer. As they say, if someone offers you a seat on a rocketship, you don't ask which seat, you just get on,” Oostveen shared.

“Like many successful join-ventures, VCE was bought out by its founder EMC, who in turn was acquired by Dell in 2016 to create Dell Technologies. I've been fortunate enough to be offered another seat on a rocketship, so it's time to buckle-up once more for another ride.”

Oostvewn’s previous role as chief technology officer for APJ with Dell EMC involved a focus on modern data centres covering Asia Pacific and Japan. He was also tasked with conveying the business and technical value of Dell Technologies by working with senior stakeholders from governments, customers, and partners.

Before Dell EMC, Oostveen worked as Director of Research for IDC Australia over six years where he was in charge of all research divisions including infrastructure, services, telecommunications, software and verticals.

Pure Storage is yet to publically comment on the new appointment, but the company has already made two other global appointments this year with Robson Grieve as chief marketing officer, and Joe Pinto as chief customer experience officer.
