MSI unveils latest 4th Gen AMD EPYC server platforms at Computex

MSI has announced the unveiling of its latest server platforms, which are powered by the 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors, at Computex 2024. The event is taking place in Taipei, Taiwan, and promises to showcase these new systems that are designed to meet the demands of modern cloud-native environments by combining performance and efficiency for data centres.

These advanced server platforms, developed by MSI, leverage the benefits of the 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors. They feature scalability and flexibility through the integration of CXL technology and DC-MHS architecture. This aims to help data centres achieve scalable cloud applications while delivering superior performance, according to Danny Hsu, General Manager of Enterprise Platform Solutions at MSI.

In collaboration with leading CXL technology companies such as AMD, Samsung, and Micron, MSI is spearheading new CXL solutions aimed at extensive artificial intelligence (AI) training and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. The newly introduced S2301 CXL memory expansion server is particularly geared towards data-intensive workloads and in-memory databases. This 2U server, powered by dual-socket 4th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs, supports up to 8TB of memory expansion and features CXL 2.0 standards, 24 DDR5 DIMM slots, and two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots.

Furthermore, MSI has introduced a range of GPU platforms tailored for AI and cloud markets. The 4U 4-GPU G4101 is a high-performance, GPU-accelerated rack-mounted workstation that supports a single AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor with liquid cooling. It comes equipped with twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots, four PCIe 5.0 x16 slots for triple-slot GPUs, and twelve 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe/SATA drive bays, designed to ensure optimal thermal management and sustained performance.

The CX271-S4056, another significant addition to MSI’s portfolio, is a 2U all-flash platform that provides two double-wide slots for GPU cards. This system is driven by a single-socket AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor and features two OCP NIC 3.0 mezzanine slots along with up to 24 2.5-inch PCIe 5.0 U.2 NVMe drive bays. It is tailor-made for accelerating processing speeds and enhancing performance in AI inferencing applications.

MSI’s latest offerings also include multi-node server platforms designed for high-density cloud and data centre environments. The CD360-S4051-X2 is a 3U 2-node server platform, configured to accommodate next-generation high TDP server processors. Each node in this system includes one AMD EPYC processor, twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots, and optional double-wide PCIe 5.0 x16 slots for GPU cards, among other features.

The CD260-S4051-X4 is a 2U 4-node server platform, with each node supporting one AMD EPYC processor. This server includes twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots, two NVMe M.2 slots, one OCP NIC 3.0 mezzanine slot, and three 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe drive bays.

Both server platforms incorporate a front I/O design based on OCP DC-MHS M-DNO architecture and support the DC-SCM2 Server Management Module with Aspeed AST2600 BMC. These features are expected to enhance server serviceability and provide management flexibility, making them a significant advancement in the data centre sector.
