MSI unveils advanced HPC & AI optimised servers

Wed, 15th May 2024

Leading global server provider MSI has revealed its latest server platforms. The new platforms have been optimised for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI applications, utilising AMD processors and 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Notably, these platforms endeavour to meet the demand for greater computing power and dense deployments driven by the burgeoning adoption of AI technologies.

Danny Hsu, General Manager of Enterprise Platform Solutions, highlighted the growth of AI application use in business, claiming that its adoption to enhance customer experiences has driven significant changes in IT infrastructure. "The need for greater computing power and denser deployments has spurred significant shifts in IT infrastructure, driving a widespread adoption of liquid cooling," he said. "MSI's AI server platforms empower businesses to achieve efficiency gains while handling more compute-intensive workloads."

The MSI G4201, a 4U supercomputer, is designed for superior performance in compute-intensive tasks. The platform features up to eight double-wide PCIe 5.0 x16 slots optimised for high-performance GPU cards, along with one single-wide PCIe 5.0 x16 expansion slot. The G4201 platform, equipped with dual 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and 32 DDR5 DIMMs, delivers outstanding heterogeneous computing capabilities for a variety of GPU-based scientific high-performance computing, Generative AI, and inference applications.

The G4101, a 4U 4GPU server platform, is another reveal from MSI and is designed specifically for AI training workloads. The system supports a single AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor, equipped with a liquid cooling module, twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots, and four PCIe 5.0 x16 slots tailored for graphic card installations. Additionally, the G4101 boasts twelve front 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe/SATA drive bays to offer high-speed and flexible storage options. The system combines air flow spacing and liquid closed-loop cooling for optimal thermal management.

The S1102-02 server platform caters to small-sized businesses requiring liquid cooling. This platform provides superior thermal performance, featuring a single AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processor with liquid cooling support of up to 170W. The compact 1U configuration system is equipped with four DDR5 DIMM slots, one PCIe 4.0 slot, two 10GbE onboard Ethernet ports, and four 3.5-inch SATA hot-swappable drive bays.

MSI's latest server platforms offer optimised configurations for a wide range of HPC and AI applications. Their integration of advanced cooling technologies and powerful processors aims to keep pace with the evolving demands of modern businesses. Utilising AMD processors and 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, these robust systems are designed to deliver superior performance in handling compute-intensive workloads.
