Megaport extends Oracle Cloud interconnect services
Tue, 6th Oct 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Megaport has expanded the reach of its Oracle FastConnect onramps, which means customers can interconnect to Oracle Cloud infrastructure in more places.

Megaport now operates 17 FastConnect onramps, including recent additions in Melbourne, Osaka, San Jose, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, and Zurich.

The company states that the new onramps provide more choice for businesses seeking to architect their cloud infrastructures for on-country data sovereignty, as well as performance, and availability.

Megaport vice president of cloud services, Matt Simpson, explains that network latency and jitter play an important role in application performance.

“To ensure peak performance, applications - whether on-premises or in the cloud - should be as close to your infrastructure as possible.

Customers that interconnect to Oracle Cloud infrastructure through Megaport can use Megaport's virtual routing service called Megaport Cloud Router (MCR).

Megaport Cloud Router allows customers to connect and route traffic without the need for physical routers.

The Megaport Cloud Router also supports Oracle's fast enablement of new cloud regions by providing rapid, reliable connectivity to the applications and platforms that power businesses every day, the company states.

“Connecting to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure on Megaport allows businesses to localise traffic and optimise their connectivity for performance. Plus, with our API-based integrations with Oracle, customers can get connected in a matter of minutes.

With Megaport, can connect services and applications from 15 Oracle Cloud regions to more than 30 Azure Cloud regions and more than 16 AWS regions.

“Megaport's SDN gives customers the performance, speed, and control to do smart business in the cloud,” comments Oracle Cloud Infrastructure vice president of marketing, Ross Brown.

“With Megaport, our customers now have another option to connect seamlessly with a multi-cloud strategy.

Megaport also says that it offers several benefits of connecting to Oracle Cloud infrastructure. These include:

  • Agility: On-demand, reliable connectivity to the applications and services that power businesses.
