Kaer & Lendlease's third partnership for sustainable cooling in Singapore

Fri, 8th Dec 2023
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Cooling as a Service (CaaS) pioneer based in Singapore, Kaer, is partnering for the third time with global real estate group, Lendlease, to implement its sustainable cooling solution at Paya Lebar Green.

This project adds to the current deployment of Kaer's CaaS solution at two other Lendlease projects – Paya Lebar Quarter and The Exchange, TRX. The substantial acceptance of the CaaS model is reflected in Kaer's current portfolio covering 20 million sq. ft of space and saving 250,000 tons of CO2 annually.

Expected to finish in 2024, Paya Lebar Green will function as the headquarters for Certis and offers around 220,000 square feet of premier, decentralised Grade-A office space.

The development has secured the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification and is the inaugural development in Singapore to achieve all five sustainability badges under the updated BCA Green Mark 2021 scheme.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kaer, Justin Taylor, remarked on the significance of CaaS in promoting more eco-riendly buildings, as well as reducing operating costs and increasing building valuations.

"We are extremely proud to continue our partnership with Lendlease, a global leader in delivering low-carbon, Grade-A offices and mixed use developments. We look forward to unveiling this latest project in Singapore's vibrant Paya Lebar precinct."

To further optimise energy efficiency and accurately report carbon emissions, Kaer's CaaS solution includes the Kaer Connect app, which offers real-time tracking and streamlines conformance with regulatory reporting, hence enhancing ESG metrics over time.

Richard Paine, the Head of Development (Singapore) at Lendlease, lauded the considerable efficiency gains derived from Kaer's CaaS model. "With this sustainable cooling model introduced at Paya Lebar Green, we are elevating our sustainability efforts even further, as part of broader strides towards Lendlease's global Mission Zero ambitions."

Lendlease is making significant progress towards its Mission Zero commitment, targeting to achieve Net Zero Carbon (Scope 1 & 2) in Asia by 2025. The firm will focus on reducing Scope 3 emissions – arising from upstream and downstream activities including manufacturing building materials and electricity use by tenants - as it aims towards achieving Absolute Zero by 2040.

The continual expansion of Kaer's CaaS offering across Asia emphasises the surging demand for sustainable cooling solutions. This rise is aligned with urgent global calls addressing rapid urbanisation and climate change to shift towards a carbon-resilient future.

Paya Lebar Green is a joint development by Certis and Lendlease. It is set to be a sustainable, adaptive, and technology-led workplace of the future, responding to the needs of Singapores modern workforce.

Launching CaaS in 2013, Kaer's mission is to make CaaS the model of choice for buildings in Asia, and to partner with asset owners to decarbonise buildings. Kaer enables businesses to buy sustainable cooling on a pay as you use basis to overcome significant capital investment and complicated operating challenges associated with owning cooling systems and assets.
