JLL Indonesia has facilitated a significant land acquisition for DAMAC Digital to support the development of an AI-powered data centre in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

The land deal covers 50,000 square metres and is intended for a large-scale data centre project with a projected capacity exceeding 144MW, representing a total investment of USD $2.3 billion. This development is expected to become one of the largest AI-focused data centres in Indonesia.

Growing digital infrastructure

According to JLL Indonesia, the project emphasises Indonesia's emerging role in the digital infrastructure sector. Farazia Basarah, Country Head & Head of Industrial and Logistics, JLL Indonesia, said:

"This transaction highlights Indonesia's growing importance in the digital infrastructure landscape. As AI computing demands continue to accelerate across Southeast Asia, Jakarta is positioning itself as a strategic hub for next-generation data centres. We're proud to have leveraged our market expertise and integrated service approach to help DAMAC Digital secure this strategic location that will support Indonesia's digital transformation journey."

DAMAC Digital has previously expanded its presence within Southeast Asia, with existing operations in Thailand and Malaysia. The company has stated its aim to achieve more than 300MW of operational capacity across the region by 2026.

Project timeline and specifications

The first phase of the Cikarang data centre is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026. The development will feature high-density AI racks, aligning with the latest technical specifications to meet the increasing computational requirements driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and digital services.

JLL's role in the acquisition involved identifying and securing land that satisfied DAMAC Digital's requirements for scale and suitability, reflecting the priorities of both technical infrastructure and strategic growth objectives in the region.

Sector impact

The transaction is seen as reinforcing JLL's involvement in Indonesia's data centre sector, which is experiencing rapid growth in response to increasing demand for digital services. The company emphasised the importance of deep local market expertise, an extensive network, and a thorough understanding of current industry trends in connecting international clients with opportunities in the Indonesian market.

JLL highlighted that such projects support national digital transformation objectives. By enabling new data centre developments, organisations like DAMAC Digital contribute to the infrastructure necessary for advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies in Southeast Asia.

DAMAC Digital's expanding footprint across the region is part of a broader trend in large-scale, high-performance data centre investments, with Indonesia emerging as a priority market for companies seeking to meet both local and regional digital needs.
