Colt DCS expanding flagship Paris data centre

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Colt Data Center Services (DCS) has announced further expansion of its flagship data center in Paris.

The company will be adding an additional 6.9 MW of capacity to the facility in a move that it says is a direct response to demand from existing customers.

The Paris South-West data center provides multi-tenant colocation facilities, with an efficient design providing for a power usage effectiveness of less than 1.2.

Wasting no time, Colt DCS has already begun construction with the goal to be complete in H1 2019. When finished it will bring the total capacity built within a 24 month period at this data center to 9.4 MW.

The company is also planning further capacity expansion within the next 18 months, with an additional 12 MW of capacity added to the data center and bringing its total capacity to 23.9 MW of IT power.

“As we have seen in recent market reports, the Paris market is booming and there is a real demand from the international Cloud Service Providers in the market to have a presence in Paris, and our Les Ulis facility is a prime facility due to its size and location,” says Colt DCS CEO Detlef Spang.

According to Colt DCS, Paris has had its most successful data center quarter in almost a decade with a total uptake of 51 MW of capacity in Q2 this year, giving the city the highest level of absorption in the FLAP markets (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris).

Spang says he is confident the successful 9.4 MW expansion and planned investment for further capacity will bolster the company's market share, pushing it towards a position in the top five providers in the market.

“We are committed to providing our customers with carrier-neutral connectivity services on demand when and where they need them allowing our customers scalability in the locations they require,” says Spang.

“The ecosystem of connectivity solutions that we have built with the availability of carriers , cloud service providers and Internet exchanges in our facilities means that Les Ulis has become somewhat of a location of a choice for the international Cloud Service Providers who are looking for such hyperscale facilities in France.
