Blue Connections IT celebrates second year of carbon neutrality
Schneider Electric is celebrating a significant milestone in its partnership with Blue Connections IT, which has achieved carbon neutrality for the second consecutive year.
Blue Connections IT, an Australian IT solutions provider, has integrated multiple sustainable features into its infrastructure, including a six-star building that aligns with its commitment to net zero. This facility is equipped with solar panels, double-glazed windows, energy-efficient lighting, and an advanced solar-powered heating and cooling system. The use of recycled rainwater in all toilets further reduces its environmental impact.
Research released by Schneider Electric in its "Sustainability Index, 2024" indicates that while a majority of corporate decision-makers are discussing their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, only a small percentage have strategies to manage Scope 3 emissions, which occur throughout an organisation's value chain. This highlights the necessity for change amongst Australian businesses to meet upcoming climate reporting standards.
The new standards, designed by the International Sustainability Standards Board, require companies from 2025 to disclose detailed information on climate-related governance, strategies, risk management, metrics, and targets. Blue Connections IT is considered a pioneer in this aspect, setting an example in preparation for a net zero carbon future.
Farokh Ghadially, Vice President of Secure Power at Schneider Electric, commented, "We are proud to partner with Blue Connections IT and celebrate this impressive milestone. The company is setting a powerful example of how businesses can take proactive steps towards sustainability. This achievement showcases Blue Connections IT's commitment to environmental responsibility and proactive approach to integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of its business."
In the year 2022, Blue Connections IT made notable progress by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 17.1% and is targeting a 20% reduction by 2024. This achievement was aided by the installation of Schneider Electric's in-row coolers in server rooms and electric vehicle chargers to support its fleet of 20 electric vehicles. These measures have been significant in cutting power consumption and carbon emissions.
Speaking about the partnership, Gordon Brownell, CEO of Blue Connections IT, stated, "Our partnership with Schneider Electric has spanned over 25 years and has been a critical factor behind why we have been able to achieve carbon neutrality. Carbon neutral wasn't a term when Blue Connections IT was first founded, and it's been fantastic to have the support of sustainability-focused organisations to help us on our own journey towards net zero."
Blue Connections IT is continuing its investment in technology to support its zero carbon goal and plans to incorporate Load Management Software to further optimise energy usage and enhance efficiency across its operations.
Brownell added, "We are committed to leading by example in our industry, showing that it is possible to implement solutions that have significant environmental benefits without compromising on growth and innovation."
