BDx acquires full ownership of OneTen Paya Lebar data centre in Singapore
BDx Data Centers (BDx), the rapidly evolving carrier-neutral data centre platform in the Asia-Pacific region, has successfully finalised the purchase of the freehold of its leading SIN1 data centre, OneTen Paya Lebar, in Singapore, from the Hwa Hong Corporation Group.
The acquisition follows BDx's successful debut in the Singapore loan market, where it secured a facility worth USD $155 million from DBS Bank and OCBC. BDx verified that the bulk of the financing will go towards the acquisition of the freehold. The remaining funding will be used for the company's broader corporate needs and regional plans.
Having complete ownership of the 14,400 sqm SIN1 site allows BDx unprecedented flexibility to refashion the data centre to cater to the developing connectivity requirements of its diverse clients, stretching from hyperscalers to enterprises. It also enables the company to pursue added expansion opportunities, particularly with the upcoming relocation of nearby Paya Lebar Air Base, which will lift building height restrictions in the area.
Located strategically in Singapore's bustling Paya Lebar district, the SIN1 data centre has been a core facet of BDx's services in the region. Acquired in 2020, BDx significantly upgraded the facility in the past four years, extending it from three to seven floors, increasing the grid power and IT capacity on-site, and upgrading the design specification to meet hyperscaler requirements.
BDx has successfully transformed the SIN1 site from a retail colocation data centre into a Tier III-compliant site that hosts over 50 customers, including three hyperscale customers and is rated among the best globally.
The improved design and efficient energy use monitoring have reduced the facility's Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to 1.35. The site boasts numerous accolades, including a TIA942 Rated-3 Certificate, SS564-1:2020 Certificate, BCA GreenMark Platinum, and PCI-DSS certification.
The BDx CEO, Mayank Srivastava, expressed that this acquisition symbolises the company's ongoing commitment to both Singapore and the wider region, which is recognised for its escalating demand for data centre services, fuelled by the onset of cloud computing and the introduction of generative AI technologies.
Mr Srivastava continued to explain that owning the SIN1 data centre allows the business to upgrade the facility further, implementing advanced solutions that customers require and bolstering BDx's position as a leading provider of hybrid cloud, connectivity, and collocation services across the Asia-Pacific region.
Ong Eng Yaw, Managing Director of the Hwa Hong Corporation, disclosed that the corporation had held the site for over 35 years. He stated, "The site has been owned by the Hwa Hong Corporation Group for over 35 years and has witnessed our evolution from our manufacturing and logistics roots to an international property investor. This transaction represents a natural culmination of our relationship with BDx, and we are pleased to see the site continue to add value to its new owners."
