Rubrik announces enhanced cyber resilience for Amazon S3 data protection

Thu, 30th Nov 2023

In an effort to provide enhanced protection for Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) data, data security platform Rubrik has announced new cyber resilience capabilities. These developments come in response to growing pressures on organisations to defend their data against risks such as accidental deletion, ransomware and cyberattacks. Particularly those dealing with substantial quantities of data in the hundred of petabytes realm will benefit from Rubrik's expanded defensive mechanisms.

Amazon S3 is an object storage service from Amazon Web Services (AWS), industry-renowned for its scalability, data availability, security and performance. S3 aims to allow users to store and retrieve any amount of data, making it a vital resource for a wide range of customers of all sizes and across various industries.

Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik, noted the urgency of data protection for modern businesses. "Organisations recognise the imperative to protect their corporate data, particularly as unstructured data expands due to new innovations in AI and increasingly connected devices," she said. "Together, Rubrik and AWS are working to help customers protect their data on premises and in the cloud while reducing operational costs, so that organisations can achieve true cyber resilience. We're proud to continue working with AWS on our mission to secure the world's data."

The new features debuted by Rubrik include air-gapped, immutable, access-controlled backups and speedy recovery at scale. The portfolio also integrates cyber posture features gained from Rubrik's recent acquisition of Laminar, a leading data security posture management (DSPM) company. These features are designed to help organisations better understand their data's location and measures taken for its security.

In a world where the complexity of data protection is on a steady rise, Rubrik has found that an average organisation's data has grown by 73% in the cloud over the last 18 months. The benefits of Rubrik's new services for Amazon S3 and its customers include the ability to autonomously discover and classify all known and shadow Amazon S3 data, assess the security posture of sensitive data, monitor for risky user activity or data leakage, manage redundant data to reduce cloud costs, and rapidly recover clean copies of data.

The company also revealed new data protection features for Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), reinforcing its promise of offering complete cyber resilience for data stored in AWS. An additional contribution from Rubrik is their NAS Cloud Direct, which is now conveniently accessible via AWS Marketplace, bringing automated data protection and simplified archival of NAS file data to larger scales.

Rubrik's recent data security enhancements for Amazon S3 are set to be made generally available in early 2024.
