FYI, this story is more than a year old

Motorola Solutions is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Malaysia, marking its evolution from a small semiconductor operation in 1972 to a mission-critical technology provider.

Malaysia has a diverse combination of highly skilling engineering talent, and close partnerships with future-focused customers, which Motorola Solutions says has benefited its local success and fostered the development of innovative offerings used worldwide.

Malaysia's public safety and enterprise security sectors depend on the company's offerings, such as Royal Malaysia Police, which combines its integrated computer-aided dispatch, video management, command and control centre dispatch offerings.

Further, its police cars are equipped with mission-critical voice communication and video systems, allowing for faster emergency response and greater awareness of incidents.

Enterprise organisations, including rail operator MRT Corporation, also benefit from Motorola Solutions' video security and mission-critical voice and data offerings.

In addition, MRT Corporation found new ways of using Motorola Solutions' offerings to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 while keeping daily services running safely and reliably.

Motorola Solutions Malaysia has a diverse workforce totalling 1700, made up of 1,100 engineers based at the company's research and development (R-D) centre in Penang, around 40% of which are women.

The Penang ‘Innoplex' is Motorola Solutions' second largest global R-D centre and employs leading talent in areas such as industrial design, software, electronics and mechanical engineering.

As well as having a strong local workforce, the facility fosters a diverse mix of cultures, with employees hailing from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and more.

Motorola Solutions' Penang operations vice president Solomon Lorthu says contributions from diverse and inclusive teams in Malaysia help to bring different perspectives and lead to industry-leading innovations.

“Our highly talented and passionate local teams have delivered and supported many homegrown breakthroughs,” Lorthu says.

“This includes the next generation MXP600 TETRA radio, the MOTOTRBO Ion converged smart radio and Android device and the compact Avigilon H5A Modular Camera that provides exceptional video analytics and security in the most challenging environments.

“As we look to the future, Motorola Solutions Malaysia will continue to provide even greater integration across its mission-critical ecosystem of voice communication, video security and software technologies to enable the public safety and enterprise security sectors to reach unrivalled levels of safety, security and performance.

Motorola has also forged strong relationships with Malaysia's academic and skills institutions and collaborative research bodies in engineering, science and technology, which the company says continues to help it build next-gen industry-ready talent.

The company also has a charitable branch, Motorola Solutions Foundation, which has donated USD $725,000 over the past five years to a range of organisations in Malaysia which it says is designed to inspire the next generation of engineers and inventors while promoting diversity and equitable access within the tech and engineering sectors.
