Fujitsu's supercomputer 'Fugaku' maintains global top rank in HPCG & Graph500 rankings
Fujitsu has announced that its supercomputer 'Fugaku' has maintained its leading position globally in the HPCG and Graph500 BFS rankings. These ratings evaluate the performance of computing methods that are frequently used in real-world applications (HPCG) and systems based on graph analytic performance (Graph500), a critical element in data-intensive tasks.
Fugaku's outstanding performance results were disclosed on 14 November at the SC23, the International Conference for High-Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis, held in Denver, Colorado, USA. This marks the eighth straight period that Fugaku has held top rank in both the HPCG and Graph500 BFS listings while also securing fourth place in the TOP500 and third in HPL-MxP rankings.
Developed in collaboration with RIKEN, the supercomputer was also supported by a team involving Kyushu University, Fixstars Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, alongside Fujitsu, to take top position in the Graph500 rankings. This collaboration earned a score of 138,867 gigaTEPS with Fugaku's 152,064 nodes, which represents a 1,771 gigaTEPS improvement from the previous measure.
The supercomputer also delivered impressive results with its full capacity of 158,976 nodes, accommodated in 432 racks. Fugaku achieved a LINPACK score of 442.01 petaflops on the TOP500, a score of 16.00 petaflops on the HPCG, and logged a score of 2.004 exaflops on the HPL-MxP.
Since its trial use commenced in April 2020 and shared use began only a year later, in March 2021, Fugaku has been serving at the forefront of social implementation across diverse areas. Covering life sciences, disaster prevention and mitigation, energy, manufacturing, fundamental science, and socioeconomic applications, Fugaku has been creating tangible transformative shifts on various levels.
In October 2022, Fujitsu commercially introduced its cloud-based HPC solution in Japan, the Fujitsu Computing as a Service (CaaS). Geared towards a wide spectrum of industries, primarily manufacturing, the innovative service simplifies the use of cutting-edge computing resources based on Fugaku and other high-performance computing technologies. These include Fujitsu's quantum-inspired Digital Annealer, a rapid solver of combinatorial optimisation issues, along with AI and several software technologies.
Fujitsu positions to harness the technological prowess of its CaaS platform moving ahead. By collaborating with customers, the company aims to expedite initiatives that leverage advanced computing solutions to tackle pressing societal issues. This approach is designed not only to address critical gaps like personnel shortages in transportation and delivery sectors but also to drive the creation of new high-performing materials.
