Equinix appoints Haris Izmee as Indonesia Managing Director
Equinix has announced the appointment of Haris Izmee as the new Managing Director of Equinix Indonesia. Izmee takes on the role immediately, bringing with him nearly 25 years of experience in cloud computing and technology.
The appointment comes as Equinix prepares for the launch of its JK1 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Jakarta. Izmee's background includes leadership roles at companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft, where he was involved in driving growth and business transformation across ASEAN markets.
Merrie Williamson, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer and Revenue Officer at Equinix, expressed enthusiasm about the new appointment. "We are thrilled to welcome Haris to Equinix to lead our team in Indonesia as we accelerate our expansion and build a world-class team in this exciting new market. Our presence in Indonesia will add a high-growth market to Equinix's extensive network of interconnected data centres worldwide. You'll hear more from Haris in the coming months as we approach the launch of JK1 and continue our growth in this strategic region," Williamson said.
Izmee also shared his sentiments on taking up the new role. "I'm excited to join Equinix in its momentous journey in Indonesia! This dynamic market holds immense potential, and as a leading data centre provider, Equinix is uniquely positioned to drive growth and innovation here. I'm passionate about leveraging Equinix's robust platform to make a significant impact on Indonesia's digital landscape and contribute to the broader region's advancement. I look forward to collaborating with the team and unlocking new opportunities in this vibrant market," he remarked.
The announcement of Izmee as Managing Director follows a joint venture established in April 2023 between Equinix and PT Astra International Tbk (Astra). The venture, known as Equinix Indonesia, is designed to develop the digital infrastructure required by both multinationals and local businesses to accelerate their digital transformation. Equinix holds a 75% equity stake in this joint venture, while Astra holds the remaining 25%.
Equinix's investment in the region includes the substantial deployment of USD $74 million for the JK1 data centre. This investment is expected to bolster Indonesia's digital infrastructure, catering to the burgeoning demand for data centre services in the region. The new facility in Jakarta will form a critical part of Equinix's broader strategy to expand its network of interconnected data centres around the globe.
Equinix positions itself as a pivotal player in the digital infrastructure sector, offering services that help organisations to combine foundational infrastructure rapidly through an interconnected platform. This platform is designed to provide businesses with enhanced agility and speed in deploying digital services, aiming to deliver exceptional customer experiences while also facilitating the achievement of sustainability goals.
