The Ultimate Guide to Open source
2024 edition
Overview
While it originated as a description of a licensing model for software in terms of which anyone is permitted access to the ‘source code’ (design) and may study, modify, change, update and distribute that software free of charge, Open Source is today associated with an approach and set of values. The Open Source way builds on concepts drawn from Open Source software, and speaks to principles of social good, collaborative participation, free exchange, sharing, transparency, and community-oriented development.
