Pure Storage makes hybrid cloud play with new acquisition

03 Apr 2019

The idea of hybrid cloud has immersed the world of IT since its inception, and now Pure Storage is accelerating its vision.

The data solutions company announced today that it has entered into a definitive aggrement to acquire Compuverde, a developer of file software solutions for enterprises and cloud providers.

Pure Storage cites an IDC study that shows among enterprises there is a growing demand for file-based shared storage in the public cloud. to justify its investment. According to the report, 79% of end users leverage file-based storage for unstructured data associated with mission-critical workloads.

Therefore, as more enterprise applications are deployed in a hybrid cloud architecture, file-based storage that offers the same advanced functionality as the on-prem environment can help reduce challenges to movement.

Based in Sweden, Compuverde brings to Pure Storage an ecosystem of technology partnerships and a scalable software solution that is deployed across global organisations in telecom, financial services, and media industries.

Pure Storage chairman and CEO Charles Giancarlo is confident Compuverde will expand Pure Storage’s file capabilities, enabling enterprises to take advantage of advanced file offerings. This additional functionality, Giancarlo says, is part of Pure Storage’s long-term strategy to empower customers to implement true hybrid architectures – whether they choose to leverage data on-prem, in the cloud, or increasingly a mix of both.

“We’re excited about the opportunities that the Compuverde team and technology bring to Pure’s existing portfolio,” says Giancarlo.

“As IT strategies evolve, enterprises look to leverage the innovations of the public cloud in conjunction with their on-prem solutions. Through our expanding suite of hybrid data solutions such as Cloud Data Services, we continue to help our customers make the most of their data assets.”

The price of the acquisition and date of completion were not disclosed.
